Family & Portrait Photographer in Wellington & the Wairarapa
Good family photos don’t come from stiff poses and forced smiles. They come from feeling relaxed enough to be yourselves, so the kids are laughing, grandparents are leaning in and nobody is checking the clock.
I’m David, a Wellington-based portrait photographer, and I photograph families, couples, teens and individuals across Wellington, the Hutt Valley, Porirua, Upper Hutt and the Wairarapa. I’ll guide you gently and keep things easy. You’ll get photos that look like you, not like a template.
Portrait sessions I photograph

Family portraits: Parents, kids, grandparents and extended family, at home or in a favourite spot.

Home sessions: I bring my equipment to you and shoot in your own space, where everyone is most comfortable. Clients often tell me how quickly they forget the camera is there.

School formals and prom portraits: Photos of your teen and their friends before the big night, with time to relax and take in the occasion.

Couples and engagement portraits: Relaxed photos for anniversaries, engagements or just because.

How a portrait session works

Get in touch: Tell me who’s being photographed, where you’d like to shoot and what you’re hoping for.

Plan together: We’ll pick a location (your home, a park, the beach, a favourite place), a time of day that suits the light and anything you’d like to include. For home sessions I’m happy to meet beforehand.

The session: I’ll direct lightly, so you have plenty of natural moments and a few classic posed shots.

Your photos: You’ll receive your edited images in a private online gallery, usually within one week.

Free A4 Framed Prints and all edited digital files included.
Where I shoot
I travel throughout Wellington and the Wairarapa. Popular choices include Wellington waterfront, Petone, Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt, Porirua, the Wairarapa and your own home. I’ll suggest locations based on your family, the season and the light.
What to wear and how to prepare

Pick colours that complement each other rather than matching exactly.

Wear what you feel comfortable in. Layers and textures photograph well.

For young children, book around nap and meal times.
